Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Welcome to Château de Nuit, the personal blog of Horrificus.  Château de Nuit can be translated as “fortress of night.”

The purpose of Château de Nuit is to serve as my blog and personal development journal in addition to hosting items that do not fit anywhere else on the Night of Pan domain.

Have a look around, and be sure to visit Night of Pan, my official domain wherein I host my finished Works and those of other Initiates which are harmonious with this Magical Gesture of mine.

This blog is powered by WordPress and I am using the Lyrics Theme 1.1 by Lucky Themes.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Today, I wrote a little Bash script on Mac OS X 10.6.5 that allows one to spoof the MAC address of their wireless network interface on en1.  Here is the code:

#! /bin/bash
# This is a simple MAC spoofer script for Mac OS X.
# This script has been confirmed to work on 10.6.5
# To make this executable, type "chmod +x mac_spoof.sh" w/o quotes in your terminal
clear
echo "==[ Welcome to SimpleSpoof v0.01 for Mac OS X 10.6.5 ]=="
echo "This script will change the MAC address for en1"
echo "Current MAC for en1:"
ifconfig en1 | grep ether
echo "Saving a copy of this MAC address to mac_backup.txt"
date >> mac_backup.txt
printf 'MAC address before spoofing:\n' >> mac_backup.txt
ifconfig en1 | grep ether >> mac_backup.txt
echo "Now disconnecting from the WLAN... (may require sudo password)"
sudo /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/airport -z
echo "Please enter a new MAC address:"
read -e NEW_MAC
echo "Changing MAC to $NEW_MAC"
sudo ifconfig en1 ether $NEW_MAC
echo "Verifying new MAC..."
ifconfig en1 | grep ether

printf 'New MAC address after spoof:\n' >> mac_backup.txt
ifconfig en1 | grep ether >> mac_backup.txt
printf '\n' >> mac_backup.txt

echo "==[ Written by NShYH | May 12, An. CVIII (2011 e.v.) ]=="
# end of script

To use this script, copy the text starting with “#! /bin/bash” and ending with “# end of script” into a new text file named “mac_spoof.sh” to make into a script.  Then, to make it executable, simply type “chmod +x mac_spoof.sh” at your terminal (without the quotation marks!) to give it execute permissions.  To run the script, type:  “./mac_spoof.sh” (again, without the quotes!) and the script will begin its execution.  After the script runs, you will have to rejoin a wireless network.

Have fun ;)

Studio Arcana is ancient brain-child of mine; a name for solo projects of a development and design nature with a focus on graphic design, web design, and video game development.  Fortunately, there are many great game engines available to the budding game developer.  I am a huge fan of Enterbrain’s software; notably their RPG Maker series of applications, and their new release: IG Maker (Indie Game Maker) which allows for the creation of platform, shoot ‘em up, and action-adventure RPGs.

Fortunately for me, I know more than a few artists whose talents I hope to able to draw on as I build skeletons of my games; complete with developed characters and storyline, in addition a fair helping of custom art and music.  The RPG Maker series of application come with default resources known as the “RTP.”  My approach has always been to build my story with the default resources; customize all my variable, polish my story, complete the scripting, and then completely overhaul the multimedia with my own art.  For the games in development, I plan on writing a majority of the music as well.  This approach has worked well for me in the past; though you would never know it: I have never released a public beta of a game despite having started more than a few.

I aim to create fun games with Thelemic themes; drawing upon the rich Magical and Mystical currents of the present Aeon.  I am designing a side-scrolling platform game wherein the player is a Thelemic Mage combating the Demons of the Old Aeon.  I have plans to turn some of my short stories (specifically, two short stories in my obscure book Strange Devices; penned when I was 18 years old).  I also have some ideas for a few arcade style games exalting the counter culture of the psychedelic underground.  I intend to make a console style RPG featuring the Book of the Law as the main inspiration; for example, one character class being a Priest/Priestess of Horus whose primary weapons are the Sword and Spear.  Another character class will be for the Priests/Priestesses of Nuit, etc.

I have no target dates for beta releases on any of these games.  However, I have been playing video games for about 20 years, and I feel that it is time I start doing serious work on the potential masterpieces swimming around in my imagination.  I write almost every day; even if it just in my journal.  I am more concerned with telling great stories; slowly building the visual and aural aesthetics after the story has been fleshed out.

First, racial/ethnic pride is ridiculous – how can one be proud about something they did not accomplish by merit?  You did not have to work to be born white, black, asian, jewish, etc.; ’twas the pick of chance (or karma or necessity or other infinitely unknown factors).  As if this weren’t bad enough, there is overwhelming hypocrisy targeted against anyone embracing “white pride” on the grounds that such naive people must automatically be “anti-[insert any ethnicity here].”  As foolish as racial pride is (to me), I do not consider those expounding their “white pride” to be automatically synonymous with “white power,” nor necessarily aligned with childish notions of “neo-nazism.”

Fuck.  Globalism can’t happen soon enough; in my opinion.

I am nearing completion of QBLtool v1.0.1 – my software suite designed to assist the occult Magician and Qabalist in their pursuit of Gnosis.  The tool comes with various working Gematria calculators, and software to store one’s private researches into Liber 777 and Liber D.  I have never seen an application quite like this one, and I plan to have some screen shots in the coming weeks (maybe even days).  I will be releasing this software as freeware for now, and I have no current plans to develop this into commercial software.

The beta version of this application will be released within a few weeks – no definite release date has been defined at this time.  The version 1.x series of the software will be developed on Windows XP.  The 2.x will probably be developed on Windows 7; adding whole new capabilities like databases in the cloud, distributed data sets from other Magician’s public research, and more.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

It is a very little known fact that Kep Ra Thoth and I are making music together.  Naturally, we have been toying with the idea for some years now.  Well, both of us are ready to devote serious time and energy to making what we call “Blue and Gold Metal,” a distinct and variation (in my mind) of “Black Metal” minus the typical anti-christian/satanic and misanthropic themes common to that style.  Hell, even the name of our band reflects this: “Black to the Blind” which means only those who are “of us” or potentially “of us” will feel the Blue and Gold of the Goddess pulsing through our music.

Well, that aside, I coming along with our version of Gustav Holst’s “Mars” from “The Planets” which we are calling “Ra Hoor, Bringer of War” in honor of the Lord of the Aeon.  Just a few moments ago I mixed down a version and sent it to iTunes and I have to say, it sounds amazing!  There are still some things to add, some engineering to attend to and some adjustments to make.  Overall, though, I am quite pleased with the project so far.

Personally, I have always been inspired by Black Metal, especially of the Nordic variety.  Not surprisingly, I have started working on a cover of “Mother North” by Satyricon.  This, too, will be on the first album tentatively called “Delight to Slay” in honor of Liber AL vel Legis and the Lord of the Aeon.  (In case you haven’t figured out by now, KRT and I are called Thelemites.)

In the near future, I will make a new MySpace page in addition to a page on Reverb Nation.  I am confident that our music will fill a niche for those fans of extreme music who have outgrown much of the imagery and motifs of modern and classic Black Metal; especially the satanic imagery.  After all, you can’t be a Satanist unless deep down inside you’re just a naughty Christian seeking to rebel.

We are neither.

Regular visitors to NightOfPan.com’s main page will notice that the A∴A∴ is now in a Period of Silence.  For those that do not know, during a Period of Silence, the A∴A∴ accepts no new Probationers nor publishes any new Promulgations.

The O.T.O. does not have alternating Periods of Speech and Silence like the A∴A∴ which means O.T.O. work is always available to the genuine Aspirant to Initiation in this Aeon of the Crowned and Conquering Child.

During the next five years, the main NightOfPan.com domain will remain largely intact in terms of current content – no new content will be added.  However, I will continue to work behind the scenes on the site making technical improvements, slight tweaks to the back end, etc.

In addition to the above maintenance, I will be updating this blog regularly with personal entries, information related to the O.T.O., in addition to using this site as a personal publishing platform for my short stories, essays, and poems; most of which feature the Great Work as the major theme and/or plot device.

I have resolved my installation issues with OpenOffice.Org 3.  I have also resolved my issues with KDE.  However, I have been using GNOME and Xfce a bit and I will probably stick with KDE for now.  I now have some new things to figure out.  I am now have having a slightly annoying configuration issue with Synaptic Package Manager – it won’t authenticate packages and reports that it is unable to download the authentication keys from the Debian repositories.  I have checked the URLs and they are valid.  The packages will still install.   However, I prefer them to be authenticated!

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

I am currently having some issues with my Linux desktop running Debian 4.x code-named Etch.  I love the Debian distribution.  All of my best Linux experiences have occurred while using a Debian-based system.

This morning, I ran the Synaptic Package Manager for the first time in a long time.  I updated a few items, and installed a few new items.  Now, I am having problems with KDE progressing past the loading of services.  I can get GNOME to work in fail-safe mode.  I loaded it up, and then checked the Services.

I was running, for some unknown reason, Apache and Apache2 along with Samba – three services I have no use for on my desktop.  I stopped them, and I removed them with the package manager.  t’s getting better.  It’s takes me about a minute to log out of GNOME.  Perhaps it’s time to make a switch to a more minimalistic environment?  I have been desiring to make this adjustment to my desktop environment for a while now.

The best part?  I still feel totally confident that my data is intact and secure, despite minor configuration issues.  This sort of thing was never a reality an M$ OS.

There are some slight issues with the NOXboard forum template.  There are some issues to be worked out in terms of making sure all of the form elements have the same look.  Some buttons, check boxes, and text boxes are not configured in the FireBoard CSS file.

Once these bugs are worked out, the forums will look even better.  As they are now, the various forums are fully functional and practically all of the design elements conform to the site theme.
